Metaphysics in a Nutshell

Post by Advocate »

There's a coherent set of answers to everything in metaphysics.

here's a link: https://kaiserbasileus.substack.com/p/m ... a-nutshell

here's a ChatGPT synopsis:
Metaphysics in a Nutshell is a unified answer the major philosophical questions starting with a small set of coherent principles and extending them logically.

At its core:

* Actuality is the universe as it exists independently of any mind: undifferentiated, continuously changing stuff. Reality is the bounded portion of that actuality that a mind can experience and interact with.
* Things are patterns recognized by minds: sets of attributes and boundaries that let us distinguish and predict interactions.
* Change is fundamental. Causality is the arrow of change, operating locally and continuously at every scale.
* Stable patterns are what make knowledge possible. The more consistently something replicates, the more reliably we can treat it as real/true.
* Knowledge is justified belief sufficient for a particular use. Proof is evidence sufficient to convince a rational skeptic; science is disciplined replication of stable patterns.
* Logic consists of relationships that always replicate; mathematics is logic dealing specifically with quantity.
* Mind, consciousness, cognition, self, and sentience are emergent patterns of increasingly complex physical organization rather than things existing independently of the physical world.
* Free will, in the metaphysical sense, does not exist: everything is causally connected. The experience of freedom comes from the gap between the causality operating on us and our understanding of it.
* Time is experienced change; space is a relational coordinate system arising from embodied perception.
* Matter is highly stable, entangled energy/pattern; energy is cyclic change within the underlying field of change.
* Meaning is perspective, salience, and priority. Ethical principles emerge from shared prerequisites: survival, truth, sustainability, and reciprocity.
* Transcendent concepts such as infinity, nothing, God, and perfection mark the boundary of what a finite mind can meaningfully represent. Infinity is a direction, nothing does not literally exist, and perfection is an endlessly approached direction rather than a final state.
* Paradoxes arise in language, not reality: when a supposed paradox cannot correspond to anything that could actually exist, the problem is with the description.
* The whole system is intended to be cohesive, ordinary-language-accessible, compatible with scientific consensus where consensus exists, and free of gaps, special pleading, appeals to authority, and supernatural assumptions.

Hello,

On this forum, we have generally shifted from trying to develop a coherent, exhaustive metaphysical description of reality to transforming our inner activity so we can lucidly feel how that activity is continuously embedded in, and constrained by, reality. These lucid impressions can then be painted in various artistic concepts that anchor and refine the underlying intuitive experiences. In this way, we shift our interest from trying to answer questions like 'does free will exist?' with absolute proclamations, to finding degrees of freedom to exercise that will so that more and more of the phenomenal spectrum and its metamorphoses are understood as the receded consequences of its intimate movements.

In one of your articles, you mention 'meditation technology'. Certain imaginative meditative practices can help us deepen this participatory philosophical-scientific approach further. Our already established metaphysical convictions about the 'nature of reality', however, often become obstacles to that deepening. We can pursue the latter only by bracketing off those convictions and sticking with what is directly given to us through the lawfully morphing flow of phenomenal experience, including our experience of being willfully active. The fact is that traditional '3rd-person' metaphysics has exhausted its usefulness in the evolutionary process, and now a new 1st-person scientific effort is needed. This new science no longer constrains itself to exploring only sensory relations as a detached observer, but explores the full spectrum of sensory, emotional, and ideal experience as an active participant.

I am not sure if you have any interest in exploring this paradigmatic transition further, but if so, we are happy to elaborate.
"They only can acquire the sacred power of self-intuition, who within themselves can interpret and understand the symbol... those only, who feel in their own spirits the same instinct, which impels the chrysalis of the horned fly to leave room in the involucrum for antennae yet to come."

I may very well be the only one here holding this opinion, however, I do want to say that in my opinion it is 100% not OK to post (paste) 100% AI generated text in a philosophically oriented forum such as this one. Moreover, when someone does this, one cannot legitimately say "I" will be happy to discuss. There is no "I" discussing here (imho ofc). There is only a pasting "I", which, if you ask me, is a terribly sad job for a human on a philosophically oriented forum. Again, you who are pasting the texts should not take this as anything more than a purely individual point of view, and should not be discouraged from sticking around. Good luck!
"The release of the senses form their bondage to matter can also be undertaken through warm and intimate perception of the life and phenomena of nature. In this case, thinking is connected to Intuition and to the perception of the ever-unfolding archetype that lies behind the organic world."
