Now this is a great place to start exploring Steiner's 'esoteric' ideas via video. JDE places Steiner in a continuity of German idealist thought starting with Kant, Hegel, Fichte, Schelling, moving into Schopenhauer (he mentions Goethe was one the few people who really appreciated Schopenhauer's World as Will and Representation at the time), then moving into Nietzsche (not idealist, but still) and Steiner (continuing after that into Heidegger, Gebser and Schirmacher). Since this video series started last year, all 11 videos are complete now.

"They only can acquire the sacred power of self-intuition, who within themselves can interpret and understand the symbol... those only, who feel in their own spirits the same instinct, which impels the chrysalis of the horned fly to leave room in the involucrum for antennae yet to come."
